I’ve been debt free since about 2001 or 2002. I love it. I’ve been using my card to build my tiny house, but I pay it off every two weeks or so. Part of the trick is to pay it off as soon after you use it as possible. This helps keep you aware of your spending. Another part is to only have one card.
I go into some store like Mervin’s (shows you how often I go shopping) and they say that I can save 10% on this purchase if I sign up for a card. When they do that, I can’t but think of the hidden costs of having more credit. So I don’t do it, even though it would save me money. Maybe that %10 is the cost of freedom.
